LONDON (AP) -Rafael Benitez is being coy about his chances of staying at Chelsea beyond the end of the season, insisting Thursday that his main ambitions as interim coach were to "win trophies and play good football."
The 52-year-old Spaniard was hired by the European champions on a seven-month contract Wednesday following the abrupt firing of Roberto Di Matteo.
Many believe Benitez is merely a short-term fix ahead of the likely hiring next summer of Pep Guardiola, the reported No.1 target of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.
Benitez says "I don't care about the short-term (deal), what I have in my head is to win every game . we will see what happens."
Benitez says he has landed the "perfect" job but hasn't yet spoken to Abramovich.

"Brooklyn Castle" easily checkmates your inner cynic.
Katie Dellamaggiore's lively and affecting documentary introduces us to a cast of characters that's very winning (in both senses of the word).
It's not To Sir, With Love: It's fierce ambition, the channeling of emotion, and hours of drilling.
Enlightening, inspiring and expertly crafted.
An irresistibly uplifting doc.
Castle is suspenseful, funny and, particularly in its depiction of the challenging home lives of some of the kids, moving.
Chess, brilliant young students and great teachers potent mix.
The I.S. 318 team? A delightfully motley, vulnerable, multicultural bunch, whose addiction to chess has allowed them higher aspirations for top high schools and, eventually, college and careers. You will root for them like crazy.
We meet five of the team's members and several of their teachers; by its end, you'll be rooting for them all.
"BROOKLYN CASTLE is a compelling, engaging and inspiring Documentary, featuring Junior High kids that you can relate to. Even if you don't know the game of Chess all too well, it won't stop you from enjoying this pleasant film."
Brooklyn Castle provides a snapshot of indomitable American can-do attitude, and gives one hope.
The admirable Brooklyn Castle transcends its formula to become an optimistic look at extracurricular education and young people.
Great story, well-made, what's not to like?
It's clear that chess isn't just a game; for these students, it can also open doors.
The film's structure is routine, but the film doesn't sidestep its more serious issues, while its charming subjects make it a winner both on and off the chessboard.

Medium is currently in closed beta, but eventually it will let anyone who feels compelled share a story on the network. Only the best stories will be featured and read by the masses?kind of like a Reddit that actually hosts the content.
Today, Stone and Williams announced a new hire that has everyone buzzing. They're bringing on Kate Lee as director of content, whom The New York Observer has deemed a "publishing prodigy."
Lee made a name for herself at ICM where she spent the better part of ten years creating book deals for untapped blogging talent. When she left, The Observer wrote that the news would "undoubtedly send many unrepresented bloggers howling into the night."
"Kate?s job is to help get great stuff onto Medium," Williams writes. "She?ll do this in a variety of ways?by discovering, encouraging, soliciting, commissioning, and contextualizing interesting ideas, authors, and institutions. She?ll do this from New York?home of so many of the world?s best storytellers. And she?ll be building a small team to help her."

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) ? Gas prices have been coming down over the past two months, but that hasn't eased holiday travel costs from last Thanksgiving.
Jackie Spencer is driving from her home in Fairmont, Minn., to spend Thanksgiving with her sister in Lexington, Neb. She stopped Wednesday morning at an Interstate 90 rest stop on the South Dakota-Minnesota border.
Spencer filled up her V-8 Dodge Durango for around $3.25 a gallon and says it's sad when that price is considered good.
But she says it's better than paying $4 a gallon, and her credit card rewards program is chipping in enough money to help pay for most of the trip.
AAA says the average price for a gallon of regular gas is $3.42 in North Dakota and $3.38 in South Dakota.
