Winchester Mayor's Ball raises thousands of pounds for charity
3:47pm Monday 15th October 2012 in Winchester
IT was such a celebration of Britain even the food was red, white and blue.
Around 200 people enjoyed dinner and dancing at the Mayor of Winchester?s Charity Ball last Friday (Oct 12).
The theme was celebrating a bumper year for Britain, particularly the Olympic success.
Guests at Winchester Guildhall were surprised by Olympic torchbearer Sydney Dean, of Swanmore, who slalomed through tables in full kit to ?light? an electric flame.
Cllr Pearson said: ?Everyone seemed to have a good time and people were dancing well into the night. There was a great cheer when Sydney came in with the flame at the start so everyone was in a good mood from the off.
?We had the red, white and blue theme and we were so dedicated to it that we had blue potatoes, red meat and white plates.?
Guests included dignitaries from other local councils, charity representatives and city councillors and officers.
It was raising money for the Mayor?s three charities of the year ? bomb disposal charity the Felix Fund, the Magic Wand Appeal raising money for a new children?s ward at Royal Hampshire County Hospital and Bishop?s Waltham Community Responders.
So far the event has raised more than ?2,000 although money is still being counted.
